The goal of our group’s Community Outreach Project with The Moore Institute was to educate teachers-in-training on how to effectively teach nutrition to students in their K-6 classrooms. We accomplish this by using the 4th edition of “How to Teach Nutrition to Kids” by Connie Liakos Evers, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD. Our overall aims were to market the “How to Teach Nutrition to Kids” curriculum to teachers as well as preparing these teachers to provide their elementary students with effective nutrition education. Our plan to achieve these outcomes is to increase awareness of the value of nutrition education to children, instruct using hands-on techniques to build self-efficacy amongst teachers, and to promote an overall sense of nutrition education in the classroom.
